And if you’re a man over the age of 40 you’ve probably run into a few challenges yourself.

You might begin to notice that the old tips and tricks you’ve used your whole life to lose weight and keep it off aren’t working anymore or they aren’t working like they used to. As we get older losing weight can become harder and we can face new challenges that we didn’t have to face when we were younger. So what can we do? Like anything in life we can adapt our habits to fit our new circumstances to help ensure you can lose weight and keep it off.  Luckily for you we have some tips and tricks for you to get you on the right track to losing weight even when you’re over 40 and keeping it off.

Weight loss looks different for everyone, but it looks even more so for men over 40.

In order to learn how to lose weight we first need to understand why the way we gain and lose weight has changed. It’s no secret that men tend to be able to lose weight quicker and easier than women. We don’t necessarily know exactly why this is and it isn’t always true for everyone, but as a man gets older what might have been an easy way to lose weight now might prove to be ineffective. So why exactly is this? Well, as men age they go through hormonal changes that can have an effect on the way they gain and lose weight. Some of these hormonal changes can include testosterone and estrogen levels.

While there is no for sure scientific research that specifically says low testosterone levels result in weight gain or a harder time losing weight, men tend to produce less testosterone as they age and it is often linked to male obesity. However, doctors are unsure whether low testosterone causes obesity or obesity results in low testosterone.

Estrogen is another hormonal change men can encounter as they age. As men grow older they tend to produce less estrogen than when they are younger. Lower estrogen levels are linked to a higher body fat count than men who have higher levels of estrogen in their bodies. The good news? A balanced diet can help you maintain higher hormonal levels as you age and thus make it a little easier to lose and maintain your weight.

Losing weight after 40 can be hard, but not impossible!

If you’re looking to lose some weight and you are over 40, we’ve got some tips and tricks to help you out on your journey to a healthier you. Just because weight loss can become more difficult as you age does not mean it is now impossible for you to lose weight and to keep it off. Rather, the habits you used to follow to lose weight that might not be working anymore just need to change.

So let’s take a look at some tips we’ve gathered that can help you lose weight. These tips range from easy and small tips that will help over time, to tips and tricks that can have faster results.

1. Vaser Liposuction

The first tip we’ll cover is Vaser Liposuction. This is the perfect trick if you are having a hard time losing a small amount of weight in a targeted area. Have some back fat you want to trim or you just need to tone up in your stomach? Well, Vaser Liposuction is a non-invasive procedure that can help get rid of stubborn fat in target areas so you can begin to feel more confident.

2. Diet Changes

This tip is obvious and a little vague, but that is because diet changes look different for everyone. Think of it this way, if you’re eating a diet that consists of foods high in fat and calories then you’re going to notice it is harder to lose weight. Let’s face it, you’re not in your twenties anymore and that burger isn’t going to burn off like it used to. Incorporating healthier choices is an easy way to kick start your metabolism.

3. Exercise

Another obvious and maybe a little overdone tip is to stick to a consistent workout regime. The types of exercises you do will vary for what works for your specific body type and where you want to lose weight, but incorporating some weight lifting and cardio is a good place to start to help you lose weight and tone muscle at the same time.

4. Cut Back On Your Alcohol Intake

Cutting back on the amount of alcohol, although not that fun of a choice, is another great way to help you lose a few pounds. Alcohol can affect our hormones and cause them to act up or react in different ways. If hormones are contributing to your struggle to lose weight it only makes sense to cut out something that could affect them even more.

5. Look Into Supplements

We get it, you might have never had to take supplements or vitamins when you were younger. Well, you’re only getting older with each passing year and sometimes our bodies need a little extra help as we age. Supplements and vitamins are a good way to help supply our bodies with what they need to set us up for success. This is true for weight loss as well!

6. Watch Your Meat

We know, after the alcohol news hearing that you should cut back on meat isn’t exactly the news you want. But, just like our alcohol tip, cutting back on meat can help you lose weight. There are plenty of studies that link weight loss to plant-based diets or diets that eliminate or reduce the intake of meat. Not only that, but cutting back on your meat intake can also help reduce the risk of heart disease and other illnesses. While cutting cold turkey might be too much to ask, try reducing your meat and incorporating more fruits and vegetables into your diet instead.

We know losing weight and keeping it off can be hard and that it can be even harder as you age. Just remember that losing weight isn’t a race and it isn’t going to happen overnight. If you want to lose the weight the healthy way and keep it off, then you have to put in the work and strive to keep it off. And always remember to ask your primary care provider before you try any new exercise or diet, and to go to them for any questions or concerns you might have about your health. Everyone’s healthy journey looks different so it might take some trial and error before you find the routine that best fits you and your lifestyle. But if you stick with a healthy lifestyle then you’re sure to see results sooner than you think!
