Our skin is the largest sensory organ on our body, which is why it’s so important you work out a beneficial routine to care for it. This is especially true for the skin of your face which may need a little more care. Your face is what someone first notices about you, and you always want to strive for putting your best face forward.‍

However, sometimes we develop conditions that affect the skin, that includes issues such as acne, rosacea, dermatitis, or rashes. You may think you have to endure these kinds of conditions, but you don’t! No matter what kind of skin issue you’re dealing with, the Medical Man Cave can find a treatment that works for you. In this article, we’re going to focus on topics related to skin, such as:

It’s important to remember that skin conditions can affect anyone, but you don’t have to resign yourself to just dealing with them. There are all kinds of ways to treat skin issues. Some of the most common conditions that men seek treatment for include:

  • Acne. If you had acne as a teenager, you know how annoying it can be. Just when you thought you’d never have to deal with pimples and red, inflamed skin again, your acne can definitely resurface as an adult. No guy wants to deal with acne again, so chances are you’ve tried all kinds of over the counter treatments, and maybe even some prescription strength treatments to help out with your acne.

A lot of people find that these products are limited in their scope, and don’t target the problem that keeps your acne coming back. Acne is tough to treat because everyone’s skin is different, and there could be a variety of reasons why it’s resurfacing in the first place. It’s so much more than just washing your face regularly, your acne could be due to stress, diet, products, or even hormonal changes and adjustments.

  • Rosacea. Another skin condition men tend to just deal with is rosacea, even though there are treatment options out there (more on that later). Rosacea is characterized by flushing, blushing, or the appearance of red blood vessels in the face. Sometimes it can be mistakenly diagnosed for acne, however, this is a separate condition. Depending on your genetics, you may even be more likely to develop this, and rosacea can get worse over time.

If you’re noticing small, red blood vessels on the center part of your face—typically on your cheeks and nose—it could be this condition. Other common symptoms are bumps that resemble pimples, burning sensations, and a thickening of the skin of the nose.

  • Rashes. Rashes are a broad term for a variety of issues that result in irritated skin. Contact dermatitis, ringworm, and psoriasis are some of the most common types of rashes. You can develop these conditions from having an allergic reaction to a product, getting an infection from a fungus, or even as the result of your immune system overacting. Rashes can be painful at times, and they can occur anywhere on the body, which is why it’s always a good idea to have it examined by a medical professional.
  • Lesions and warts. Warts are caused by viruses and commonly appear on your feet, hands, and genital area. They are very contagious, and should be treated appropriately. If you find that you have warts, you should definitely reach out to your healthcare provider.

Skin lesions can appear almost anywhere, and range from being benign such as birthmarks, to potentially cancerous. If you’ve noticed a skin lesion change shape, grow larger, or become irritated, it’s probably time to consider consulting your doctor.

These are some of the most common skin concerns that can be treated. The commonality of conditions such as acne, rosacea, and rashes are that they’re due to some kind of inflammation or irritation. In order to help with these conditions, you need to get to the root of the issue, which is why there are so many different kinds of treatments available—what works for one person might not work for someone else.

Ways To Treat Your Skin Conditions

If you’re dealing with any of the above-mentioned skin conditions, we’re here to say that there are a variety of different ways you can treat them. You’ll always want to discuss what options are best for you with your doctor, but we thought it would be helpful to go over some of the most typical ways to treat skin concerns.

Sciton Laser

While you’ve probably heard of lasers and chemical peels before, did you know that they can also be helpful when treating rosacea? That’s right, a sciton laser is a procedure that resurfaces the skin in order to promote the growth of new skin. If there are pigmentation problems such as those that can occur with rosacea, this laser works to remove those layers and permit the growth of new, healthy skin. It can even jump start the collagen production process to ensure the skin that comes back looks fresher, firmer, and with less wrinkles.

This laser is more targeted than those in the past, which means it can work on the parts of your skin that need adjustment, while leaving the rest of your skin alone. There is also less downtime after the procedure, since the laser only focuses on those areas that need assistance.

Prescription Medications

If you have a skin concern such as acne that seems to persist no matter what you do, it could be time you tried prescription medications. This coupled with the use of the right products to keep your skin clean could help clear up your acne. Acne can be irritated further if you’re using the wrong types of products, which is why it’s important to address this with your doctor.

Topical Steroids Or Anti-Fungals

Topical steroids may be used to help treat skin inflammation such as psoriasis or eczema, while an anti-fungal could be used to help clear up nail fungus or ringworm.

Lifestyle Changes

It’s also important that you evaluate what could be causing skin concerns such as an acne breakout or a rash to develop. There are lifestyle adjustments you can make to increase your chances of lessening the intensity of a skin condition.

  • Make sure you’re eating well and getting plenty of sleep
  • Avoid tobacco use
  • Try to reduce sugar intake
  • Limit processed or fried foods
  • Keep stress levels in check

While some skin issues such as warts or ringworm are caused by viruses and fungi, there are other issues that may be helped with a more consistent skincare routine. In order to make the most of your treatment, you should also make sure you’re caring for skin properly.

  • Use a gentle cleanser for your face
  • If you use toner, make it alcohol-free
  • Moisturize
  • Wear sunscreen
  • Speak with your doctor if you notice your skin changing

It’s important to know that you have options when it comes to treating a skin condition. When you have a good, consistent skin care routine and are treating the problem at the source, you’ll be confidently showing off your skin in no time.
